Our Story
2nd Shot Recycled Skateboards by John Gibson.
Canadian made guitars built from old skateboards.
Hi, I’m John — a full-time artist and founder of 2nd Shot, a creative studio dedicated to transforming recycled skateboards into one-of-a-kind, functional works of art. With over 15 years of experience as a professional maker, my work is deeply rooted in craftsmanship, sustainability, and storytelling.
What began with small handmade accessories like bracelets and keychains has evolved into a focused practice that includes high-end custom guitars and micro-batch watches. My guitars combine the precision of traditional luthiery with the raw, expressive energy of used skateboard decks. The watches I build are crafted from the same recycled material — each one telling its own story in miniature form.
As a former skateboarder, I have an authentic connection to the culture embedded in my materials. Every piece I make reflects a respect for process and a passion for giving new life to the broken and discarded. These aren’t just products — they’re objects with soul, shaped by history, grit, and creative reinvention.
In 2022, I launched a daily vlog to document the behind-the-scenes realities of artistic entrepreneurship — from sourcing materials and building in the shop to sharing wins, setbacks, and everything in between. Through 2nd Shot, I continue to push creative boundaries, build community, and show what’s possible when you follow your own path.
